Sohyun, Arise! Song Vocals

We’ve been working on a demo version of a new song called Sohyun, Arise for the musical theater production we are creating, and we thought we’d share here a sample from a section of the song. This is the ending, and it is just the vocals without any instruments. As you can hear, it has many layers going on at once. The song features 10 different characters and many of them are singing together here in the end.

The song tells the story of Sohyun’s life from being a baby to the present day, including different meanings of ‘Arise’ (like mother waking her up as an infant, dad urging her to get up and head out to a puppet show as a young child, Sohyun telling her self to rise up and work hard to build her own brand and company as a young adult, and feeling the message from ancestors urging her to tell their story (such as in A Jeju Story).

But the song ends with this section about how we all can rise up to the potential in each of us, so it changes to “When you Arise”, with a lovely threaded melody and counter melody written by Sohyun & Melkije. You can hear their voices here as well as Sohyun’s brother and father in this demo version. We hope you enjoy this preview of the vocals and can feel the special feeling
